Aluminium matrix composite — the material for the future of lightweight construction

AMC, the shortcut for aluminium matrix composite, terms to a group of different aluminium composites. What they all have in common is that the main component is an aluminium material as matrix. This matrix encloses the reinforcing component. Together, the result is a range of properties that can’t be achieved by using the components as single component material. Even more, the properties can be variably adjusted within certain limits. In our AMCs we are used ceramic as reinforced particles, more precisely SiC (silicon carbide). The result? A material composite that is almost as light as aluminium, but as wear-resistant as conventional established iron-based materials. By varying the amount and size of reinforcement as well as the alloy composition of the matrix, we can offer you a lightweight material with tribological and thermal properties optimized for your application scenario and requirements.
