Everything comes from casting!

Original molds made of AMC

Casting is one of the oldest and most versatile manufacturing processes in metalworking. By pouring liquid metal into a mold cavity, components with virtually any geometry can be produced efficiently. A wide range of metals and alloys can be cast, making the process well established in numerous industries. Thanks to advances in additive manufacturing of molds and the use of sophisticated simulation software, development times in the casting sector have fallen dramatically over the last ten years. Casting is back in fashion!

What is the role of our AMC?

Just like classic aluminum alloys, our AMC alloys can also be cast with minimal process adjustments. This means that existing foundry infrastructures can continue to be used, while at the same time new property profiles can be achieved that are not possible with conventional aluminum materials.

Advantages of AMC in casting

  • Existing equipment and processes for processing aluminum powders can be used 1:1.
  • Excellent wear resistance
  • High rigidity and hardness
  • Low thermal expansion

Examples from industry

  • Brake discs, pistons, bearings, ...
  • Lightweight housings and support structures
  • Near-net-shape components
  • In principle, the material can be used wherever lightweight construction and wear stress come together and the thermal expansion of the aluminum alloy needs to be reduced.

Technical details

We are currently working on a material data sheet in the form of a white paper with processing instructions for various casting processes, a property profile for sand casting, and data on process integration and heat treatment.
